Treasure Hunt Ideas

I get a lot of emails asking if Riddle Me can be used for certain activities.  I've put a few of the questions and answers below and hope they can spark your own creative ideas.  If you do something cool, please let me know so I can post it here.

Below are some ideas for creating different types of scavenger hunt activities, but please visit the home page to learn more about how easy Riddle Me is to use and how much time it will save you over and over again for parties and activities.  Here's a short video to show you what Riddle Me can do.

TREASURE HUNT IDEA 1: Neighborhood Activity

User: I want to do a scavenger hunt in my neighborhood with riddles, the children would solve the riddle and get the item and move on to the next. please respond

Answer:

It's easy to set up a scavenger hunt activity around your neighborhood. You can even set up different courses for different age groups. Here's one way to do it, but once you're familiar with the product you can really customize it however you want.

(actually first you need to go through the home inventory list and pick all the items that are available in the neighborhood for the activity) Then...

First, decide on the boundaries for the activity.

Second, figure out who will be playing, their ages, and how you'll be grouping them so you know how to organize the activity.

Third, generate games with different image backgrounds for each group. If you'll be using different yards and homes you might put the last name of the home where the kids need to find the object so they know where to go next. Edit the puzzle by clicking the sub button next to any item you want to edit. You can also choose a different riddle from this screen or create your own riddle to use.

Fourth, print each puzzle out, cut them apart and tape them where you want the clues.

Fifth, start the party.

TREASURE HUNT IDEA 2: Walk-a-Thon

User: I love the idea of your product but I'm not sure it will work for the event that I am planning. We have multiple birthdays, mostly adults, and I want to have a scavanger, photo or similar "hunt" that includes a one mile radius around my home. There are a couple of strip malls that include McDonalds, a Shell gas station, a bakery, a dry cleaners, etc. I'd like to have teams of maybe 3 people each and the winners will choose their favorite charity to give the prize money to. Is your product adaptable for such an event? Thank you

Answer:

I'm not sure, but I've been very surprised by some of the creative ways people have used the product. Here's one testimonial I got that surprised me by this person's creativity.

Just wanted to thank you for the allowing me the opportunity to become a beta tester of this fantastic new upgrade! We used it on Friday to create a Riddle Hunt/ WalkAThon for our elementary school. The kids were raising money to help hospitalized children in our community, and all of them commented on how much fun the Walk-A-Thon was this year because of your unique riddles. One way to approach this would be to edit some of the riddles by creating your own and on some of them put other things like "take a picture of something shiny" etc... You could print a couple digital photo scavenger hunts and then put those items into the puzzle hunt manually. You could even make short lists of things to do when they get to a riddle location so they have to do the things on the list and then go to the next puzzle location.

On the unique locations like McDonalds, etc..., you'd need to come up with riddles for those locations yourself because the product doesn't have things for around town businesses. There are almost 5,000 riddles on over 400 objects but no specific businesses.

TREASURE HUNT IDEA 3: SECURITY AND SAFETY

User: I'm assisting the Security Department at a large hospital in developing a
Scavenger Hunt to draw attention to "National Security Week," in October.
Do you have any ideas that could be tailored for healthcare workers to draw
attention to security int the workplace?

Answer:

Riddle Me isn't designed specifically for this, but my father is a 24-year
military intelligence officer and did security work in the military and for
years afterward. I forwarded your question to him and this was his
response. Hope this helps give you some ideas.

They could begin by making a list of potential security and safety problems for people to find. This would be as follows:

-If they have badges, look for someone without one.
- Forgot to wear it or is it a visitor without a badge, or, is it an intruder. If so, have them write down the procedure to follow
- If they are using a code system to call for assistance, do the employees know what it is and how it operates? Have them write down the procedures to be followed...
-Also, a check on numbered doors to see if those that are suppose to be locked, are locked.
- Do they know who to call for emergencies? List the names and numbers.
-Look for fire extinguishers that have not been serviced in the time
required.
-Have them examine the parking lot regarding safety reasons i.e. are the lights at night all working.
- Are emergency lights installed properly and in the right places?
- Is there a guard in the lot checking cars? Who is the security officer and what is his number to call?
- Look for equipment in the hallways that might be a safety concern.
-Are the floors wet and slippery and there is no sign saying CAUTION, WET FLOORS?
-They could take the list of items in a large first aid kit and assign each person to bring one or two of those items to the meeting room where an accounting could be made. Look for broken ceiling title which could let dust into the area.

I am not certain just where they want to go with this hunt. They could even scavenge for something to eat i.e. cookies, cake, candy bar, soft drink, gum etc. The list could go on and on.. Even a necktie, slippers, bath robe, soap, tooth brush, toothpaste... The list is endless... Pencil, pen, pad..etc..etc.. To keep everything in the safety category to scavenge for would be severely limited.
